VW BUDD-e Named “2016 Concept Truck of the Year”

Volkswagen made a big splash when they unveiled their BUDD-e concept vehicle at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show. The fully electric, zero emissions BUDD-e, inspired by the classic microbus, captured our attention and our hearts almost immediately. The BUDD-e equally entranced the judges at the 15th Annual North America Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards held at the Concours d’Elegance of America this past July.

“We are thrilled that the BUDD-e has been honored as 2016 Concept Truck of the Year and would like to thank the panel of judges for recognizing Volkswagen’s innovation,” said Dr. Hendrik Muth, Direct of Product Marketing at Volkswagen of America. “We are determined to lead the future of automotive design, and BUDD-e shows the capabilities of our all-new electric vehicle architecture and further advances connectivity and infotainment.”

More than twenty vehicles, each introduced for the first time at an auto show this year, were judged, and the BUDD-e beat out three other finalists in the Concept Truck category.

The BUDD-e can go 233 miles on a single charge by EPA estimates. It is the first vehicle to use the new Volkswagen Modular Electric Platform, and was designed to be able to communicate effortlessly with the driver’s office or smart home thanks to next-generation connectivity and infotainment systems.

Though BUDD-e is just a concept for now, drop by our VW dealership in Downers Grove, IL to try out the current lineup of Volkswagen cars, crossovers, and SUVs. Our full inventory is also found online on our website.
